Some shoes are created because someone sees an opportunity in the market.
Tomás Sullivent was created because there was a problem that needed solving.
The idea began roughly ten years before Tomás ever launched. Its founder, an attorney, found himself caught between two worlds. He wanted the comfort and natural shape of barefoot and minimalist footwear, but those shoes did not exactly fit the expectations of a courtroom or a business setting.
Then there were traditional dress shoes.
They looked the part. Polished leather. Formal silhouettes. The kind of shoes that belonged with a suit.
But there was one problem: they weren't shaped like a foot.
Instead of following the natural shape of the foot, traditional dress shoes often taper toward the toes, creating a shape that looks elegant on a shoe rack but has little to do with the shape of the foot inside it.
So the question became simple:
Why couldn't a dress shoe be both?
Why couldn't a shoe have the polished appearance expected in formal settings while being designed around the natural shape of the foot?
That question became the starting point for Tomás Sullivent.
Making the Shoe That Didn't Exist
Creating the answer wasn't as simple as finding the right materials or tweaking an existing design.
There wasn't an off-the-shelf shoe to start with.
The development process involved custom shoemakers, modified lasts, prototypes and extensive wear testing. Each iteration brought the design closer to the goal: a formal shoe with a foot-shaped design, a wide toe box and a much more natural relationship between the shoe and the foot.
It took years of refinement to get there.
The result was a different kind of dress shoe. One designed to look at home with a suit while giving the foot room to exist as a foot.
That became the foundation of Tomás Sullivent.
Formal Doesn't Have to Mean Traditional
We believe you shouldn't have to choose between the way you want your shoes to feel and the way you need them to look.
A foot-shaped shoe can still be polished. It can still be made from premium materials. It can still belong in formal settings.
It just doesn't have to follow every convention of traditional dress shoe design.
Tomás Sullivent was built around that idea.
Not to make another dress shoe.
To make the dress shoe that was missing.
Because sometimes the right thing to do is make the shoe that should have existed all along.
